At today’s registration, we spoke with a member of one of the teams arriving from South Africa, who shared their first impressions of arriving at the venue of IBCC 2026, their expectations for the competition, and how they are preparing for the opening days.
According to him, the first few days after the long journey were mainly about adjusting. The team members arrived tired, but after a few days they were able to settle in, and by now everyone has calmed down and can focus fully on the competition. They are excited for the start, hopeful for good weather and a favourable peg draw, and they feel that the team spirit among them is strong.

How did news of the IBCC reach South Africa?
The competition was first promoted within the local angling community by Freddie Koch through a South African qualifying series. The rounds and finals held there gave teams the opportunity to eventually make their way to this major challenge on Lake Balaton.
The North Shore may be more favourable
When it comes to the venue, the team would prefer the North Shore. According to them, they prepared thoroughly, reviewed videos and experiences from previous years, and this is what shaped their view. At the same time, their final tactics will also depend on the weather, as they are expecting a cold front, rain, and lower temperatures early in the week.
In the final stage of preparation, selecting the right bait and boilies is also an important task for them. According to the interview, the three South African teams are working closely together, jointly assessing the local options and making the key decisions that could define their first days on the bank.
An international field
The arrival of the South African participants is another clear sign that the international field of IBCC 2026 is once again exceptionally strong and diverse. The excitement was already palpable at registration, and soon we will see what the teams who have travelled from afar can achieve on Lake Balaton.
